Written by Barbara

Leadership ISD has announced they will welcome a new Executive Director in February after a year-long search.

Michera Brooks is a North Texas native who has worked at the intersection of education and access to opportunity for nearly 20 years. She comes to Leadership ISD from Leadership for Educational Equity (LEE), a national civic engagement organization where she facilitated and developed strategic partnerships with other national nonprofits including Public Allies, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, New Leaders, Urban Teachers, School Board Partners, and Latinos for Education.

“The Leadership ISD Board of Directors and team are beyond excited to have someone of Michera’s caliber and commitment leading our organization as we transform education together. Michera brings decades of experience and an infectious passion for advancing educational equity that will propel our work forward to improve outcomes for ALL students. Please help us welcome Michera to the Leadership ISD family,” said Dr. Jeannie Stone, LISD Board Chair.

Michera received her BA from Duke University and her J.D. from New York University School of Law. Throughout her career, Michera has worked tirelessly for children. Prior to her most recent role with LEE, she:

  • Practiced education law for 10 years, first at legal nonprofit Advocates for Children which focuses exclusively on educational opportunity and access for under-resourced families in NYC, and then as in-house counsel at Achievement First, one of the largest and highest-performing charter networks in the country.
  • Led national expansion strategy and development as Chief of Staff/Associate ED at NYC nonprofit Ramapo for Children which focuses on strengthening the capacity of adults to create communities that support success for all students.
  • Served with Teach for America in Houston.
